AMBULANCE AND EMERGENCY CARE WORKER/PARAMEDIC
The primary function of an Ambulance and Emergency Care Worker is the resuscitation & stabilization of critically ill or injured persons by performing the necessary emergency care before and during transportation to the hospital.
JOB CHARACTERISTICS OF AN ECW
Transporting and caring for sick and injured people.
Responding promptly to emergency calls with due regard to the requirements of traffic safety and to legislation pertaining to the operation of emergency vehicles.
Undertaking a rapid survey of both the situation and the patients to establish the needs on arrival at the scene and to effectively decide upon suitable treatment.
Ensuring the safety of the site by maintaining safety standards and removing the patient from further potential hazards.
Administering shock treatment, dressing wounds, providing cardiac massage and/or mouth-to-mouth respiration and other suitable medical techniques to stabilize a patient.
Supplying the medical staff with an accurate report of the patient’s condition, treatment and if possible, medical history.
Ensuring the cleanliness of both the vehicle and equipment and replacing supplies before the emergency call.
